What is a UFO screw on beauty shears? If beauty shears have two little holes or slits on the screw, this is called a UFO screw. It is important to correctly adjust the tension on beauty shears and barber scissors as well as grooming shears. If the screw is too loose, the shears will not cut properly. Shears with a UFO or tamper resistant screw must be fitted with the correct size tool or key and turned clock-wise to tighten as most shears typically have a screw that is loose. The correct adjustment will allow the handles to move easily without slamming shut or wobbling. The key should have been provided by the shear distributor who sold you the shears.
